Become an URN Officer

 Join the Undergraduate Research Network

Help us build a cohesive research community at UVA and apply to join the team as an Oculus Editor, URN Officer, Photographer, or Designer here:

If you’re curious about what specifically URN does, the application has details. We’re looking for students in both the sciences and humanities with a wide variety of backgrounds and perspectives. If you’re looking for more information on URN, here are slides from an Info Session we recently held for prospective Officers!

The Undergraduate Research Network (URN) is a special-status organization that supports students throughout the research process—from grant-writing seminars and lab-tours to poster sessions and journal publications. Our goals are twofold: (1) to expand the community of researchers at UVA by providing catalytic information and resources to students; and (2) to assist undergraduates in fully enjoying and benefiting from independent intellectual inquiry. We welcome students throughout the sciences and humanities to apply for an URN Officer position, which involves:

  • Attending weekly General Body meetings (7:00-7:45 on Sundays) to plan and execute University-funded initiatives
  • Joining a Committee to tackle a specific, ongoing project
    • Symposium
    • Research & Scholarship Week
    • Workshop Series
    • Oculus Journal
    • Outreach
  • Significant freedom to design and pursue new projects in service to URN’s mission
  • Front-row access to information about research opportunities on- and off-Grounds from UVA’s Center for Undergraduate Excellence (CUE)

Interested students should apply online by midnight on Sunday, September 16, 2018. Please direct all questions to URN Outreach Chair Vaishnavi Madhavan at
