My name is Anthara Gnanakumar and I am the Chair of the Undergraduate Research Network. I am a third-year in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in neuroscience and minoring in English while on the pre-med track. I became involved with URN during the fall semester of my first year at UVA and have since been dedicated to promoting research to the greater UVA community. I spent the past 2 years as a member of the Symposium committee, but am excited to expand my role as a member of the executive board and make research more widely accessible to students of all interests and backgrounds in the coming year. My own research is conducted in the Connelly Lab, where I am investigating differences in oxytocin receptor DNA methylation within brain tissue to better understand the neural basis of social behavior in human beings. Outside of URN, I am a scribe in the UVA Emergency Department, am part of the committee that puts together the annual Pancakes for Parkinson’s event, and enjoy reading, dancing, and photography!
